Media Literacy Training for CSOs assisting IDPs

Institute for Regional Media and Information and the Thomson Foundation invite Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to a series of media literacy training. First twin workshops will be held on 27 February – 1 March and 21 – 24 March in Kharkiv. This initiative is a part of the Regional Voices Project, implemented by a media consortium of the Thomson Foundation, Institute of Regional Media and Information (IRMI), MEMO 98, Association Spilnyi Prostir (ASP) and The European Journalism Center, funded by the European Union.

During first communications session participants will learn how to tell, tailor and direct their stories to different audiences. They will also develop strategic communications plans for their organizations, record interviews on camera and discuss the importance of audience relevance, appeal, targeting, news room timing and debate generation.

At the second set of workshops, CSOs who participated in the advocacy workshop will meet regional media players to become networked and familiar with each other needs. The CSOs will have an opportunity to organize media event to practice their message delivery techniques from the initial four days media literacy campaign in a non pressured, mentored environment.

The Thomson Foundation’s, Mark Webster, is a specialist in media handling and strategic communications with extensive international lecturing and training experience. His 30-year career in journalism began in newspapers, including the Evening Standard and he became Africa and then industrial correspondent at the Financial Times.

International Institute for Regional Media and Information (IRMI), Angelina Soldatenko, is media and PR expert. She will elaborate on media landscape in Ukraine and effective communications tools. Angelina is a journalist, media trainer and public communication expert with extensive experience. She develops Ukrainian and international training programs for media specialists and public information officers.
